Confirmation

πŸ•ŠοΈ What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a powerful sacrament of initiation in the Catholic Church. Through the anointing of Chrism oil and the laying on of hands by the Bishop, your child receives the fullness of the Holy Spirit. It completes Baptism, strengthens faith, and sends them out as disciples!

βœ… Who Can Receive Confirmation?

Candidates for Confirmation must meet the following criteria. If you’re unsure about anything, no worries! We’re here to help you figure it out. πŸ’™

  • ✝️ Baptized in the Catholic Church (or ready to receive Baptism through RCIA)
  • πŸ“š Participating in Faith Formation classes or attending Catholic school
  • πŸŽ‚ Usually in 8th grade or older
  • πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘ Willing to attend Confirmation classes & retreats
  • 🌟 Ready to say β€œyes” to growing their faith

If your child hasn’t been Baptized, received First Communion, or is older than most Confirmation students, they may prepare through our RCIA for Youth process!

πŸ“… Two-Year Confirmation Journey

πŸ“– Year 1: Build the Foundation (Typically 8th Grade)

Students begin preparing their hearts by attending a class and Youth group meeting each month- focusing their studies on the foundation of our beliefs. They explore how faith fits into their everyday worldβ€”while making new friends, growing closer to Christ, and beginning service to others.

πŸ™Œ Everyday Confirmation Commitments

Confirmation isn’t just a one-day event β€” it’s a season of choosing to walk with Christ. These are the four core commitments we ask of every candidate:

πŸ“… Monthly Classes

Attend regular formation classesΒ  β€” growing your knowledge and love for Jesus and the Church. These classes take place once a month and include Mass. Dedicating two hours of your month to take part in the sacrifice of the Mass and deepening our understanding of Christ and His Church, are just the beginning in this life-long journey!

πŸ”₯ Monthly Youth Group

Attending Youth Group is mandatory and allows Confirmation students to grow their community of believers while also helping our community. These meetings are also once a month and have a different focus/theme. The Youth Group consists of a fun game or activity, and then a service activity. These classes are opportunities for the students to become active in their faith. The Youth Group is open to kids of any denomination in 6th through 12th grade. These meetings allow students to share their faith with friends and with strangers.

πŸ‘ Active Service

Be the hands and feet of Jesus by volunteering in your parish, school, or neighborhood. Service is an integral part of the Confirmation Journey. Each year, students are required to turn in a report and list of the service they have completed that year, connecting the service activities to a Saint, a Beatitude, or an Act of Mercy. Through the Youth Group, students learn about ways they can incorporate service in their daily lives, and our programs give students many ways to be active parishioners of our church; helping at our Faith Fromation programs, VBS, being a part of our Youth Choir or Orchestra, participating in Holy Day Masses, and other parish events.

β›ͺ Weekly Mass

Worshipping with your parish community is the heart of our faith. Regular Mass attendance keeps you connected to Christ and the Church. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass reminds us of the sacrifices we must make to follow Jesus. Devoting time each week to worship gives students the ability to dive deeper into their faith so they can continue this practice outside of Confirmation class.
